General Assembly Second Committee

The General Assembly Second Committee (GA2) handles agenda items related to a range of financial and economic matters. The GA was formed as one of the six principal bodies of the UN by the United Nations Charter in 1945. It is the main deliberative, policy-making and representative organ of the UN. The GA2 is composed of 193 members of the General Assembly. While the resolutions that GA2 passes are non-binding, they still hold considerable political weight for Member-States. This committee discusses a wide range of issues dealing with financing and development, as well as global partnerships.

The topics this committee will consider at WASMUN 2020:

1. Agriculture development, food security and nutrition

2. Unilateral economic measures as a means of political and economic coercion against developing countries
